Background

Hilton Ayrey has 18 years of classroom teaching experience and 10 years as a tutor at New Zealand Graduate School of Education (NZGSE) with responsibility for developing innovative literacy programmes. Also the author of more than twenty teaching resources – reading tests, graded reading texts and ‘after reading' comprehension activities that foster higher order thinking.

Hilton and Brian Parker have joined forces to produce some answers to the issues facing teachers of reading in today's classroom. They are passionate about designing and delivering simple routines and structures for teachers that deliver quality teaching to make the job easier in a professional environment which just wants to make it more and more complex.
